Bill Womack Field is named after legendary Ringgold baseball coach, Bill Womack. Womack was a former Rossville High School athlete in the late 1960s who went on to the University of Georgia and later became one of the best baseball coaches in the Peach State during his 20 years at Ringgold High.
“Socky,” as his close friends called him, retired from coaching in 1998.
Countless numbers of Womack's players, including his son Tas, went on to play baseball in college and professionally.
He was named the region coach of the year seven times, won six region titles and his teams played in 12 Georgia state tournaments.
When Womack stepped down in 1998, he left behind a record of 376 wins and 172 losses. The list of his college signees and professional baseball draftees he coached is a long one. That list included Kenny Henderson, the number five selection overall in the 1991 Major League draft. Henderson was the highest draft pick to ever play for the national baseball power Miami Hurricanes.
Other of his professional players included, Jesse Cross, Keith Linebarger, Roger Hackett, Billy Stephens, Eric Alexander, Michael Langston, Josh Gandy, Judd Ross and Jeff Gordon to name a few.
